EMDR Consultation for Counselors

Tamara is a Consultant-in-Training able to help you gain more confidence and skill in EMDR. If you’ve not yet become trained in EMDR, click here for training information. 

Clinicians who have completed Part 1 & 2 of an EMDRIA approved Basic Training can further their knowledge in EMDR by becoming Certified.

Do I have to be certified in EMDR?

Absolutely not! There is no requirement to become certified in EMDR. You can practice EMDR as a clinician after completing basic training. Certification is the next step if you are interested in deeper knowledge. I am very grateful I took the step to become Certified. I became more confident in my skills, and my intuition increased in using the protocol. I’ve seen EMDR work wonders in the lives of my clients.

Certification Requirements

The certification process is 20 hours of consultation in addition to the 10 hours to complete basic training.

1. Being fully licensed in your state & having at least 2 years of experience in your field of licensure. 

2. Conducting at least 50 EMDR sessions with at least 25 different clients. 

3. Provide a notarized letter stating you are licensed and have completed 50 EMDR sessions with 25 different clients.

4. Complete 20 hours of consultation with an Approved Consultant. I am a Consultant-in-Training and can provide you with 15 hours of consultation. The other 5 hours must be done by an Approved Consultant. 

5. Complete 12 hours of EMDRIA continuing education.

6. Provide a letter of recommendation from your Approved Consultant(s).

7. Provide two (2) letters of recommendation from peer colleagues.

How long is the certification process?

There is no required minimum amount of time to complete the Certification Application process. Some clinicians complete the process in 1-2 years. Everyone has a different pace and attitude toward becoming EMDR Certified. 

There is an expectation that all requirements (except EMDR basic training completion & licensure) are completed within the last 5 years.
